“Access to the free parking was very complicated for people receiving treatment,” a dialysis patient at Maitland Hospital Christine Jordan said.
“About 50 people make the trip to hospital six days a week for treatment and payment was done in cash or by tokens,” Ms Jordan said.
“Tokens for parking – together with cash – were being sent to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle in a container, then the tokens were sent back to Maitland Hospital.”
Several patients approached Maitland MP Jenny Aitchison and asked her to sort out their problem.
“Quite a few people came to see me about this,” Ms Aitchison said.
“Some tokens for free parking for dialysis patients were getting lost in the system when they were sent back to John Hunter Hospital.
“So I spoke to the NSW Health Department and swipe cards will now be issued to dialysis patients.”
